Palliative Care Residency and Fellowshiptrain

Residency-Year of Added Competence in Palliative Medicine

The Division of Palliative Care Medicine, Department of Oncology, University of Alberta offers a fully funded one-year Program of Added Competence in Palliative Medicine. The program is accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and the College of Family Physicians of Canada, and is open to physicians who have completed requirements for certification by either of the Colleges.

Clinical experiences include a tertiary palliative care unit, consultation services in the home, hospices, acute care hospitals, and outpatient clinics. A seminar series is provided, and trainees also complete a scholarly project.

Resident AnnaInternational Clinical Fellowships

The Palliative Medicine program also accepts International applications for physicians desiring to complete a Clinical Fellowship in Palliative Medicine. This is a one year fellowship designed in a similar fashion to the one-year Program of Added Competence in Palliative Medicine described above. However, other training lengths are considered i.e. months. Presently, funding is not available for these positions. Trainees would be required to secure their own funding.
