What are hospices?
Hospices are units in Continuing Care
facilities for palliative people who cannot or do not want
to be cared for at home. These people do not need the care
an acute care hospital provides.
Medical care is provided by the
family doctor and staff who work with palliative care
people all the time.
A palliative
care consultant doctor from the Regional Palliative Care
Program visits the person within a day or two of arrival on
the unit. The consultant provides suggestions for care to
the family doctor.
