  Nurses
 

What is the nurse's role in palliative care?

  • RN's (Registered Nurses), coordinate team members and oversee nursing care.
  • RN's together with LPNs (Licensed Practical Nurses) do assessments and teaching. They talk to other health care professionals about the person's needs, such as the family doctor and, help with decision making.
  • NA's (Nursing Assistants) work in hospice units and in the home to give basic care under the guidance of the RN and LPN.
  • RN's LPN's and NA's do care such as bathing, stop or treat skin break down, bowel care, bladder care, mouth care, diet and fluids, and change dressings to name a few.
