People who have palliative home care
are people who:
- want to be cared for at home
- have needs which can be met by
the program
- have a home where care can be
provided
- have a doctor who agrees to care
for them there
- may choose to die at home
- have an Alberta Health Care Insurance
Plan or agree to pay the cost of care
What services does palliative home
care provide?
The services include:
- assessing the person's care needs
- planning how to look after pain
and other symptoms
- emotional support
- other services such as:
- looking after the home
- having someone come in to
the home so the person giving care can have a break
- washing, bathing
- equipment/supplies
- volunteers
- seeing that all parts of the care
work together for the person
